AerFrame FAQ 

AerFrame is a seamless, standards-based, end-to-end communications and management infrastructure developed by Aeris specifically for M2M applications. AerFrame consists of a set of ruggedized communication services and a set of open-standard device management services. Refer to the AerFrame datasheet for more information.

Are Special RF Modules Needed To Use The AerFrame Services?
There are numerous off-the-shelf RF modules that can use AerFrame Services. Both CDMA and GSM modules are supported. Aeris-approved RF modules allow applications to leverage the specialized M2M messaging capabilities offered only by Aeris.
How Much Customization Is Required In the Commercial Application To Use AerFrame?
Minimal customization is required in the commercial application to use AerFrame. AerFrame supports industry standard interfaces, such as SOAP and XML. In addition, Aeris provides an API that enables commercial applications to communicate seamlessly with deployed CDMA or GSM devices. By using the Aeris API, commercial applications can be developed and deployed quickly and easily, reducing the need for specialized knowledge about cellular systems.
Are Commercial Applications Required to Use the Aeris API?
No, Aeris does not require the use of the Aeris API. Commercial applications can manage their devices using industry standard interfaces, such as XML or SOAP. The Aeris API merely provides a flexible, service-tested method to bring applications to market more quickly.
Using the Aeris API greatly reduces time-to-market for M2M applications by enabling developers to focus on the core application, without spending precious development resources on building a communications infrastructure.
What Are the AerFrame Device Management Services?
In addition to seamless connectivity, AerFrame provides web-based and socket interfaces for reliable, real-time management of devices in the field. You can use the management interface to remotely activate, suspend, or cancel devices.
Capabilities include:
  • Provision and test new devices on the factory floor, in the showroom, in the field, or anywhere you need.
  • Monitor and change the status of deployed devices.
  • View or change service rate plans to suit changing message traffic needs.
  • Locate lost devices.
  • Remotely diagnose and troubleshoot devices in the field.
Does Aeris Support Development and Testing New Applications?
Yes, Aeris can provide MINs (CDMA) or SIM cards (GSM) to test products during development. Developers can purchase SIM cards (GSM) and provision MINs (CDMA) via the AerPort.
How Do I Determine the AerFrame Communication Services That Are Best Suited for My Application?
To select the AerFrame service that is best suited for a particular application, consider the following:
  • What type of coverage is available where devices will be deployed (GSM, CDMA, or SMS)?
  • How long will messages need to be?
  • How fast does message delivery or session setup need to be?
