Machine-to-Machine Market Gaining Speed

Aeris.net Reports Record Milestones Supporting Growth Predictions

SAN JOSE, Calif. September 27, 2004  —Aeris.net, the leading network provider for wireless machine-to-machine (M2M) communications services, today announced it has reached several significant milestones that support recent analyst predictions of an explosion in the wireless M2M services market.

Mobile applications on Aeris.net's MicroBurst® network have spiked 30 percent since the end of last year. More than 600,000 devices are currently activated on the network with more than 90 customer applications, of which 60 are commercial products to the mobile enterprise industry. Most recently, Aeris.net reported traffic on its network has risen to more than 20 million data packets in a single month.

"The recent growth in devices, applications and traffic on the MicroBurst network is a clear indication of the growing demand for wireless M2M mobile communication solutions," said Robert Schoenfield, senior vice president of Marketing and Business Development for Aeris. "Aeris.net is the premier provider of M2M network services in North America, and when the traffic on our network experiences this type of growth it proves the M2M market is for real. "

A recent FocalPoint Group report predicted that by 2008, the increasing demand for wireless M2M applications will generate billions in revenues from sales of hardware, system integration, networking, and MCO Services (monitor, control & optimize). This growth is clearly reflected in the milestones achieved by the MicroBurst network. The number of mobile and fixed devices operating throughout North America is increasing rapidly as companies discover the bottom-line benefits of telemetry-based solutions using reliable, efficient and cost-effective wireless communications.

Applications supported include untethered trailer tracking, consumer telematics, security and alarm monitoring, as well as industrial remote monitoring and control over a host of other telemetry-based solutions. The variety of applications supported by the MicroBurst network speaks to the need for enterprise customers to find new and more creative ways to automate and manage remote assets due to rising operating expenses, and how wireless M2M solutions are meeting that need.

" While we are certainly pleased with these results, it is clear that we've only just begun to tap the potential of the wireless M2M market, " said Schoenfield. " The MicroBurst Network can handle almost three times the traffic we're handling today and scale to many times more capacity. We look forward to supporting the increased demand we expect from the M2M market over the next several years. "

Aeris provides the most robust, widely available and data-secure wireless telemetry network service for both mobile and fixed applications in North America. Aeris.net currently aggregates the networks of nearly 30 cellular operators throughout Canada, the U.S. and Mexico to provide the largest M2M WAN in North America. Designed from the ground-up to serve mobile and fixed short packet data communications, the MicroBurst network combines the existing wireless and wired infrastructures of today's leading wireless carriers with proprietary control channel technology to create a multi-carrier data network specifically optimized for M2M data communications. By later this year multi-mode MicroBurst compliant wireless modems utilizing CDMA, GSM and AMPS will provide reliable wireless data connectivity throughout the network.
