WHAT:
One of the most important aspects for wireless Machine to Machine solutions is selecting the most effective communication technology. These include a number of options including short range (RFID, NFC, BT, Zigbee), WLAN, and WWAN. This February SIG will focus on the WWAN choices for M2M communication. Wide Area Network (WAN) describes a physical or logical network that provides capabilities for a number of independent devices to communicate with each other over a common transmission- interconnected topology in geographic areas larger than those served by local area networks. M2M applications have accomplished this enhanced communications by use of many different wireless technologies. WAN wireless communications has enabled M2M applications to grow while offering new productivity gains and improved products and services.
The ubiquitous coverage of public WAN networks has benefited M2M devices by providing network access across large geographic areas. Access to these public WAN networks has reduced the cost of rolling out wireless M2M devices and provided a larger communication area for M2M devices.
This M2M Wireless Communications SIG focuses on the numerous public WAN networks that are available to M2M applications, the business models associated and the criteria in choosing a WAN network. There are many network choices available including but not limited to MicroBurst®, CDMA, GSM and Mobitex. The panelists will provide an overview of these networks and the various aspects in making a decision.
