AERIS COMMUNICATIONS COMPLETES $29 MILLION PRIVATE EQUITY INVESTMENT; CHANGES NAME TO AERIS.NET

Strategic Investments by Rogers Communications, QUALCOMM, Capital Communications CDPQ and ORBCOMM and Support Expansion in Growing Wireless Telemetry Markets

SAN JOSE, Calif. | September 13, 1999    —Aeris Communications, Inc., the provider of MicroBurstT service, a leading wireless connectivity solution for short packet signaling and messaging applications, today announced it has completed a $29 million round of private equity financing. The investment will fuel Aeris's sales, marketing and technology efforts as well as broaden the range of Aeris's low-cost network connectivity service for fixed and mobile wireless telemetry applications.

Rogers Communications (Toronto: RCI.A and RCI.B; NYSE: RG), QUALCOMM (Nasdaq:QCOM), Capital Communications CDPQ, a subsidiary of the Caisse de Depot et Placement du Quebec, join a subsidiary of ORBCOMM Global in the round of funding. Concurrent with this investment, Aeris Communications, Inc. will do business as Aeris.net, effective immediately.
