SAN JOSE, Calif. | May 2, 2000 Aeris.net today announced an agreement with Public Service Cellular (PSC) to deploy their patented MicroBurst messaging technology over the control channels of PSC's cellular network. MicroBurst technology enables Web-to-wireless connectivity and control of intelligent devices for alarm and security, global positioning, automated meter reading and other telemetry applications.
The expansion of Aeris.net's coverage to PSC's territory will provide MicroBurst service to over 6,000 square miles of West Georgia, including a large portion of the Chattahoochee River Valley area. By partnering with carriers across the country such as PSC, Bell Atlantic, Ameritech, AirTouch, Western Wireless and GTE, Aeris.net ensures that MicroBurst application developers have the most extensive service access available. Aeris.net currently covers the entire nation, as well as Canada and Mexico.
"These carrier agreements demonstrate our commitment to providing the most extensive coverage possible," stated Wade Vesey, vice president of sales and marketing of Aeris.net. "Aeris.net's extensive footprint assures MicroBurst application developers that their customers will have this low-cost service wherever they need it."
MicroBurst technology is a proprietary utility that enables short data packets to be transmitted over control channels in cellular networks using standard IS-41C signaling mechanisms. These short data packets are transmitted by cellular devices and are routed to the Aeris central hub facility over existing SS7 (Signaling System 7) networks. The Aeris hub identifies the service provider, the ultimate recipient for the data, and routes the data for delivery via one of several available back-end links, which include Internet, dial-up and dedicated connectivity.
MicroBurst technology provides ubiquity of service and the lowest possible cost structure. All data distribution is handled by Aeris' central clearinghouse facility. This distribution strategy makes MicroBurst technology fully mobile and enables all MicroBurst devices to roam throughout the North, South and Central America.
Aeris.net, headquartered in San Jose, Calif., provides web-to-wireless connectivity and control for a broad array of short packet signaling and messaging services using its proprietary MicroBurst utility. MicroBurst technology employs the control channel infrastructure of the cellular network as a transmission medium to achieve low cost of service and ubiquitous coverage. Aeris.net currently has contracts deploying MicroBurst technology across cellular service areas in all of the United States, Mexico, Canada and much of South America. Initial applications include vehicle position and condition reporting, security and equipment monitoring, and utility meter reading.
