LOJACK SELECTS AERIS MICROBURST™ WIRELESS DATA SERVICE FOR NEW CONSUMER TELEMATICS SERVICE

MicroBurst Utility Enables Cost-Effective Vehicle Location and Asset Tracking For LoJack's Consumer Telematics Product Line

WIRELESSAGENDA2000, Austin TX | May 23, 2000    —Aeris.net, the leading provider of web-to-wireless small-packet data messaging service, today announced an agreement with LoJack Corporation (NASDAQ NMS: "LOJN") to provide wireless connectivity throughout North America supporting LoJack's new consumer and commercial telematics service. The consumer telematics service will pinpoint the location of a vehicle and provide motorists with services such as emergency roadside assistance, remote door unlock and E911. The commercial telematics service will provide fleet managers with key location information for dispatch functions. This new LoJack telematics product complements the highly successful LoJack Stolen Vehicle Recovery System currently being marketed by the company.

"We are excited to be working with LoJack to provide the public with emergency services for vehicles," commented Dick Gossen, CEO of Aeris.net. "The MicroBurst low-cost utility is the only wireless telemetry network that has the qualities required by a "mayday" solution. It works everywhere cellular is available, is seamlessly mobile, and reports in real-time."

Aeris.net's MicroBurst service operates as a virtual network overlay on cellular networks to provide the lowest possible cost of wireless service for machine-to-machine communications. Aeris.net's MicroBurst technology operates on the control channels of the cellular network, enabling instant activation regardless of location and seamless transmissions throughout North America.

"Aeris.net is a leading enabler of asset tracking," said Joseph F. Abely, President and COO of LoJack. "The vast MicroBurst coverage areas, along with the industry's lowest service cost, will be the key elements in the success of the LoJack Telematics product line."

How MicroBurst Works

MicroBurst technology is a proprietary utility that enables short data packets to be transmitted over control channels in cellular networks using standard IS-41C signaling mechanisms. These short data packets are transmitted by cellular devices and are routed to the Aeris central hub facility over existing SS7 (Signaling System 7) networks. The Aeris hub identifies the service provider, the ultimate recipient for the data, and routes the data for delivery via one of several available back-end links, which include Internet, dial-up and dedicated connectivity.

MicroBurst technology provides ubiquity of service and the lowest possible cost structure. All data distribution is handled by Aeris' central clearinghouse facility. This distribution strategy makes MicroBurst technology fully mobile and enables all MicroBurst devices to roam throughout the North, South and Central America.
