SAN JOSE, Calif | March 12, 2001    —Aeris.net, a leader in web-to-wireless, machine-to-machine communications services, has reached an agreement with Marconi InfoChain management services, a division of Marconi Data Systems, Inc. to provide wireless connectivity supporting Marconi's supply chain solutions. This agreement will provide Marconi, a leader in telecommunications, information management applications and services, with Aeris's low cost MicroBurst wireless messaging services throughout North America.

Supply chain information management, manufacturing logistics, and personal access, movement and location systems are just a few of the areas in which Marconi InfoChain is delivering integrated business processes to Fortune 500 companies worldwide. "Aeris.net will play a key role in providing our customers with enhanced real-time information about the intra- and inter-company movement of their goods and services," said Mark McGlade, vice president of sales and marketing at Marconi InfoChain. "We selected the MicroBurst network because it combines speed, high data integrity and low cost with an unmatched coverage area to provide a reliable network which is critical in today's supply chain services."

"The wireless telemetry market for services such as supply chain and logistics management is an enormous opportunity," said Wade Vesey, vice president of sales and marketing at Aeris.net "Aeris is excited be working with a world class industry leader such as Marconi to bring these services to market."

How the MicroBurst Network Works

MicroBurst technology is a patented utility that enables short data packets to be transmitted over control channels in cellular networks using standard IS-41C signaling mechanisms. These short data packets are transmitted by cellular devices and are routed to the Aeris central hub facility over existing SS7 (Signaling System 7) networks. The Aeris hub identifies the service provider and routes the data for delivery via a back-end link, which includes Internet, dial-up and dedicated connectivity. The end-user is notified of activity via cell phone, pager, Web page or e-mail.
