SAN JOSE, Calif. | July 16, 2001 Aeris.net, a leading provider of web-to-wireless remote control for machine-to-machine communications, together with Beacon Wireless Solutions, which designs, manufactures and distributes a line of high quality marine safety products, today announced that Beacon Wireless' flagship product -- the HarborMaster Mark II(TM) -- a wireless monitoring and security system complete with web integration technology, will employ Aeris.net's ubiquitous MicroBurst® wireless telemetry network.
Qualified by Aeris.net, the HarborMaster Mark II monitors boats and watercraft for low battery, high water, bilge pump activity, unauthorized entry, ignition use and theft. Once installed in a boat, the HarborMaster will use Aeris.net's North American wide MicroBurst® technology to power its wireless telemetry capabilities. The HarborMaster will launch later this year.
"Aeris is pleased to team with Beacon Wireless Solutions to facilitate marine vessel monitoring. As an increasing number of industries enable their security and monitoring functions with wireless telemetry, it is critical that the service work everywhere, 365x24x7," states Fred Oliver, vice president of channel management for Aeris.net. "Now with a click of a mouse, the boating industry can also reap the benefits of wireless security and asset management technology."
According to a recent study querying 500 people regarding the need for marine monitoring technology, 97-percent of all respondents do not currently own a monitoring and security system. Of those same 500 people, 87-percent said they recognize a growing need for such a system. Additionally, 68-percent of respondents indicated that they do not have a service or person monitoring their marine vehicle; 65-percent of those people were concerned about the safety and security of their boat. Most importantly, 71-percent of all respondents indicated interest in acquiring such a system.
David Lash, President of Beacon Marine Security, comments, "Advances in wireless technology are benefiting the boating community in a significant way, with new consumer-friendly monitoring products and services that are a fraction of the cost of what they used to be. The availability and cost-effectiveness of these new wireless telemetry services give consumers the flexibility of being able to personally monitor their property investments, while meeting consumers' increasing need to secure their property against theft and mechanical deterioration."
