UNION CELLULAR AND COMMNET WIRELESS TO PROVIDE CELLULAR NETWORK SERVICES FOR AERIS WIRELESS TELEMETRY NETWORK

Leading Wireless Telemetry Provider Increases Wireless Telemetry Data Services in Western States

SAN JOSE, Calif. PRNewswire | Aug. 20, 2001   Leading the wireless telemetry industry with high performance, high data availability and low cost network services, Aeris.net(TM), provider of web-to-wireless, machine-to-machine communications, today announced that Commnet Wireless and Union Cellular have agreed to provide cellular coverage for Aeris.net's North American MicroBurst® wireless telemetry network.

The Illinois-based Commnet Wireless, d.b.a. AWZ Cellular, and Wyoming- based Union Cellular (a division of Union Telephone), will provide cellular channels that allow Aeris to expand their wireless telemetry network services to cover regions of the West and Midwestern U.S. Aeris.net's proprietary MicroBurst technology leverages underutilized cellular channels to send and receive small packets of information that in turn can be used to remotely monitor devices, track mobile goods, and protect and manage buildings, structures and other fixed or mobile assets.

"Commnet Wireless and Union Cellular will both greatly aid Aeris.net in continuing to increase our level of network coverage, and further enhance our service commitment to our customers," said Mike Pote, Vice President, Carrier Relations of Aeris.net. "With the help of cellular carriers such as Commnet and Union, our customers can rest assured knowing Aeris.net's wireless network is the only one of its kind that blankets all of North America, providing the most available, seamless, secure and low cost wireless network service."

Aeris.net's patented MicroBurst technology enables short-packet data to be transmitted over control channels in cellular networks using standard IS-41C signaling mechanisms. This short-packet data is transmitted by cellular devices, and routed to the Aeris.net central hub facility over existing SS7 (Signaling System 7) networks. The Aeris.net hub identifies the service provider and routes the data for delivery via a back-end link, which includes Internet, dial-up and dedicated connectivity. The end-user is then notified of activity via cell phone, pager, fax, Web page or e-mail.

No significant capital outlays or system upgrades are required with the new carrier partners to support the deployment of MicroBurst and VBurst(TM) technology, thus enabling the wireless transmission of data. The MicroBurst and VBurst technologies operate completely within current established cellular networks, piggybacking on unused channels.
