San Jose, Calif. PRNewswire | Sept. 24, 2001 —Aeris.net, the premier network for fixed and mobile telemetry applications, announces the approval of the Ericsson MM-15 wireless communications module for use in Aeris.net's MicroBurst network.
The MM-15 cellular data radio is a sophisticated 3-watt modem designed for original equipment manufacturer (OEM) applications. Wireless machine-to-machine communications are made possible with modules, like the MM-15, which are integrated into a wide range of equipment including appliances, industrial machinery, metering equipment and all types of vehicles.
Aeris's growth in machine-to-machine communications applications continues to take off. Applications include consumer telematics products that contact the police if a car is stolen, security panels that notify a call center when an alarm has been triggered, and units that monitor air conditioner systems alerting dispatch operators when service is disrupted. With over 140,000 MicroBurst products in service, Aeris.net is truly leading the way in the M2M market.
"Aeris.net welcomes Ericsson's MM-15, which is designed to support the large number of applications currently utilizing the MicroBurst network," said Syed Zaeem Hosain, CTO of Aeris.net. "We are proud to be working with Ericsson, a world-class manufacturer of radio modules and application solutions for the M2M market."
The MM-15 is the third plug-compatible Aeris module to be manufactured by Ericsson. Previous modules include the DM-10, a single-band, dual-mode radio, and the DM-20, a dual band, dual mode radio. The new module from Ericsson is in beta trials and will be commercially available 1Q02.
MicroBurst technology is a proprietary utility that enables short data packets to be transmitted over control channels in cellular networks using standard IS-41C signaling mechanisms. These short data packets are transmitted by cellular devices and are routed to the Aeris central hub facility over existing SS7 (Signaling System 7) networks. The Aeris hub identifies the service provider, the ultimate recipient for the data, and routes the data for delivery via one of several available back-end links, which include Internet and dedicated connectivity.
MicroBurst technology provides ubiquity of service and the lowest possible cost structure. All data distribution is handled by Aeris' central clearinghouse facility. This distribution strategy makes MicroBurst technology fully mobile and enables all MicroBurst devices to roam throughout North, South and Central America.
Aeris.net, headquartered in San Jose, Calif., provides web-to-wireless connectivity and control for a broad array of fixed and mobile telemetry applications using its proprietary MicroBurst® technology. MicroBurst employs the control channel infrastructure of cellular networks as a robust transmission medium to achieve low cost and ubiquitous data coverage. Aeris.net deploys MicroBurst technology across cellular service areas in the United States, Mexico, Canada and much of South America. Initial applications include vehicle tracking and alarm reporting, security and equipment monitoring, and utility meter reading.
