Sony Ericsson to collaborate with Aeris and Skybility on enhanced functionality for machine-to-machine modules

San Jose, Calif. PRNewswire | April 29, 2003 —Sony Ericsson today announced that it will be working together with Aeris Communications, Inc. of San Jose - California, and Skybility of Carlsbad - California in an effort to promote the Aeris Digital MicroBurst® Technology and add this key functionality to its Rugged Module product family. The companies will jointly develop market programs for these Digital MicroBurst-enhanced products and provide an innovative migration solution for the Americas.

The focus of the collaboration is to bring to market products that will enable customers in the wide line-up of segments already using the Analog MicroBurst Technology to move to Digital Technologies such as CDMA, GSM, or TDMA, in a transparent fashion. From that point, and taking advantage of the inherent strengths in 2 and 2.5 G wireless digital communication, the three companies envision continued cooperation to develop service and product offerings targeted at enhancing the business value of wireless data communications to their customers.

"The cooperation with these market leaders, Aeris and Skybility, is initiated to address the migration needs from analog to digital technology for the vast customer base of the tremendously successful MicroBurst Standard in North America and parts of Latin America" says Anders Franzen, Corporate Vice President and Head of Sony Ericsson Machine-to-Machine (M2M) Communications Unit.

"Aeris MicroBurst Technology has become universally embraced as the lowest cost and most spectrum efficient network standard for the rapidly growing M2M market," said Dick Gossen, CEO of Aeris. "This collaboration brings together world class design, manufacturing, and industry expertise to help the market realize its full potential."

"This three way strategic cooperation leverages the technical and market strengths of each firm. From this agreement we will bring market driven M2M data communication technology that provides the migration path from Analog to Digital Control Channel Technology (CCT)," says Jan Vesseur, President and CEO of Skybility.
