VERIZON WIRELESS TO DEPLOY AERIS.NET MICROBURST TECHNOLOGY TO PROVIDE SUPERIOR SERVICE FOR SECURITY, TELEMETRY AND REMOTE MONITORING

Verizon Wireless Customers Benefit From Cost-Effective Wireless Connectivity and Control of Remote Intelligent Devices

San Jose, Calif. | November 4, 2003 PRNewswire —Aeris.net, the leading provider of machine-to-machine (M2M) communication services, and Verizon Wireless, operator of the nation's largest and most reliable wireless network, today announced the signing of an agreement between the two companies to deploy Aeris.net's MicroBurst® technology across Verizon Wireless's digital CDMA network. Verizon Wireless operates the largest AMPS and CDMA networks in the United States, covering 49 of top 50; 97 of top 100; and 178 of top 200 markets. Once MicroBurst is deployed throughout Verizon Wireless' CDMA infrastructure, the combined technologies will provide Aeris customers with superior coverage for their wireless security, telemetry, remote monitoring/control and other M2M applications.

"Verizon Wireless is pleased to expand our MicroBurst agreement with Aeris.net," said Ted Hoffman, vice president of technology development for Verizon Wireless. "Aeris.net's control channel technology enables us to support machine-to-machine communications without impacting our voice and data customers. MicroBurst complements our strong presence in the wireless data market and provides a cost-effective solution for short packet applications."

"Aeris.net is delighted to be working with Verizon Wireless to grow the market for M2M communications," said Dick Gossen, president and CEO of Aeris.net. "Our agreement with Verizon Wireless is a significant first step toward enabling MicroBurst digital technologies in all of our carrier partner networks throughout the United States, Canada, and Mexico."

Aeris.net, with its MicroBurst technology and services, offers a great opportunity to carriers looking to maximize the ROI of their wireless infrastructures. MicroBurst quickly enables the robust control channels of the wireless network to provide highly valued connectivity to telemetry-based solution providers. The technology is standards-based and requires no special modifications or updates to work with existing cellular systems.

The combined network technologies will be supported by dual-mode and dual-band MicroBurst modems that will switch between CDMA and AMPS technologies depending on network and technology availability.

"Enabling MicroBurst over Verizon Wireless' digital network opens up new application opportunities," said Dick Gossen. "Adding digital technologies to our existing AMPS services enables a smooth transition for MicroBurst customers as AMPS networks are phased out over the next several years replaced with 2G, 2.5G and 3G digital technologies. The evolution of MicroBurst into a dual-mode, dual-band digitally enabled service deployed within Verizon Wireless has raised the standard again for M2M Communications."
